To Create A Diamond

These works center around the concept of pressure it takes to make a diamond and the repetition of said pressure. It is also how that repetition changes and even begins again. You see the forces of that pressure within the works and what it does to one person's sense of self, to a community, and to the future. While creating the works, the movements within the markings are based on a reaction to change and the chaos that ensues. It is interesting to watch those that choose to orchestrate said chaos yet at the same time this chaos puts us under this pressure.

This particular pressure that it takes to create a diamond and that day in the process. What most people don't know is that this was the style for a series that I started about ten years ago. My earliest works were books full of charcoal pieces just like these. I was always interested in the pressure and process it took to make art but also how that reflects within one's own daily life in order to accomplish goals for themselves or someone else in return for stability.

Within this series, there's a more meditative understanding of this process oriented work and how it reflects the necessary order and path of the ways of nature. While these works have a technical execution to them, they are documentations of a spiritual journey, for example the charcoal in the sense of alchemy or ashes to ashes. Regardless of our social or economical status, we are dust and to the dust we shall return. As layers of unnecessary materialism both physical and spiritual arise in times of chaos, the void is slowly filled with more meaningful movements.
